Terms of Use

These conditions govern access to and use of this website. Visiting a page, using a search feature, or reading its content indicates acceptance of all terms stated below. Anyone who does not agree with these conditions should stop using the website.

NO FCRA USE. This privately operated website is not connected with any local, Tennessee, or federal government agency. It and its advertising partners do not offer services for employment screening, credit decisions, tenant evaluation, insurance underwriting, or another use regulated by the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA). Its purpose is to help readers locate criminal-record resources serving Scott County, Tennessee. It is neither a private investigation business nor a consumer reporting agency.

1. What This Website Is

Scott County Criminal History is an independent reference website. It has no government affiliation and does not maintain official records. It cannot conduct an official background check, retrieve a government file, or submit documents on a reader's behalf.

The website directs readers to custodians such as the Scott County Sheriff's Department, Scott County criminal courts, the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation Criminal Justice Information Services Division, and the Tennessee Sex Offender Registry. Tennessee government records remain subject to the Tennessee Public Records Act, Tenn. Code Ann. §§ 10-7-501 through 10-7-506, specialized court rules, and statutes including § 38-6-120 governing TBI criminal-history information and dissemination. Links to outside search services may also appear.

2. Rules for Using This Site

Each user agrees not to:

  • Use the website in violation of federal, Tennessee, or local law
  • Threaten, stalk, harass, or intimidate another person with information found here
  • Rely on website content for hiring, housing, lending, or insurance decisions
  • Attempt unauthorized entry into any website system or account
  • Deploy bots, scraping software, or other automated collection tools against the pages
  • Interfere with website performance or another visitor's access

3. No Harassment, Stalking, or Discrimination

No information obtained here or through a linked service may be used to harass, threaten, stalk, intimidate, or discriminate against anyone. This rule is especially important for Tennessee Sex Offender Registry information. The registry exists to support public awareness, not confrontation, vigilantism, employment blacklisting, or housing discrimination. The official registry warns that using its data to commit a crime, including stalking, harassment, threats, or intimidation, may result in criminal prosecution and civil liability.

4. We Are Not a Consumer Reporting Agency

Scott County Criminal History is not a consumer reporting agency under the FCRA. It creates no consumer report, credit report, or background-check product. Its advertising partners are not presented as services for evaluating job applicants, rental applicants, insurance eligibility, or creditworthiness. Users agree that neither website information nor a linked tool will be used to:

  • Make a hiring or termination decision
  • Evaluate a renter or other housing applicant
  • Set insurance terms or determine creditworthiness
  • Decide eligibility for a license, permit, or government benefit
  • Carry out any other activity regulated by the FCRA

When an authorized official check is required, use the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation Criminal Justice Information Services Division and the fingerprint channel specified by the requesting program, or choose a screening provider that complies with the FCRA.

5. No Legal Advice

Website content is general information, not legal advice. It may describe how Scott County records are commonly accessed, but it cannot determine how a warrant, pending charge, conviction, court order, or Tennessee expungement law applies to a particular person. Advice about an individual matter should come from a Tennessee-licensed attorney.

6. No Warranties

All content and functions are supplied "as is." No warranty is made that:

  • Any detail will be accurate, current, or complete at a particular time
  • The website will always be available without delay or interruption
  • The pages will contain no defects, errors, or security vulnerabilities
  • A partner search service will return complete or correctly matched results

Criminal records can change when charges are filed, amended, dismissed, restricted, or expunged. Scott County offices and Tennessee agencies may also revise fees, hours, and procedures. For those reasons, website content is not an official statement from a court, sheriff, the TBI, or another government custodian.

7. Third-Party Services and Links

Links may lead to the Scott County government, court services, Tennessee agencies, legal resources, or outside search providers. Following one of those links takes the user to a service outside this website's control. No responsibility is accepted for an outside provider's content, fees, availability, data handling, or accuracy. Review that provider's own terms before proceeding.

8. Intellectual Property

Text, graphics, logos, and code presented on this website belong to Scott County Criminal History or its content partners. No one may reproduce, distribute, alter, or create a derivative work from that material without prior written authorization.

9. Limits on Our Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, the website and its operators are not liable for losses or damages arising from website use, reliance on its content, or information returned by a linked service.

10. Indemnification

A user agrees to defend and hold the website and its operators harmless from claims, demands, or legal proceedings caused by that user's conduct, misuse of the website, or breach of these terms. This obligation includes related costs and reasonable legal fees.

11. Governing Law

Tennessee law governs these terms. Any dispute arising from access to or use of this website must be brought in a court located within the State of Tennessee.

12. Changes to These Terms

These terms may be revised from time to time. A revision becomes effective when the updated language is posted on this page.

13. Cutting Off Access

Access may be limited, suspended, or blocked at any time, for any reason, and without advance notice.

14. Severability

If a court finds one provision invalid or unenforceable, the remaining terms continue in effect. The affected provision will be narrowed only to the extent needed to make it enforceable.

15. Questions

Questions about these terms may be submitted through the Contact page.
